How do i throttle a computer on my home network?

First L asked:

Someone is using too much bandwidth and I want to throttle them back. Is there a way to do this with a netopia 2210-02 router?

I’ve done quite a bit of research on this.

Though the 2210-02 comes with a QoS feature, it’s not configurable. Since it’s not only a router, but also a DSL modem, you won’t be able to use any 3rd party firmware with it.

What you can do, though, is to set the Netopia up as a bridge, essentially just using the modem feature and disabling the routing features. Then you can use a router or gateway on the LAN side to handle QoS.

Setting the Netopia to bridge mode:

This is a bit advanced, so make sure you understand what you’re doing before you get started (if you choose to go this route).
