How do I set up a home network with my wireless router?

I want to network my notebook computer to my desktop in the house so I can easily send files between the two, but I don’t know how. Here is what I have, and what I have tried.

I have a Belkin Wireless G router.
I have a free ftp server installed on my desktop.

I’ve tried using an ftp program to connect to the ftp server on my desktop so I can swap files that way, but the notebook won’t connect to the desktop. I’m wondering if the router is interfering, and what I need to do to connect.

Is this the best way to home network, or is there another way?

Basically what I need to know is how do I get my notebook and desktop to communicate so they can share files. Thank you!

    MY GOODNESS Caina, did you forget how to read??? Get out your instruction book that came with the Belkin and see what it says. Then read about home networking in the Help & Support section of your computer. Then, if you can’t figure it out, call the Belkin technical support folks. I bet they have all your answers….

    don’t try settle for an ftp server!!!

    You should try to set your network up so that you are sharing your hard drives over the network, that way each computer can access it as though it was an extra hard drive on the computer. If you are using windows xp, you could use the home network setup wizard.

    There are plenty of resources on the net about setting up a home network which works for wireless routers as well. i suggest starting there. Good luck..

    First make sure you have the wireless connection selected by following this path “Start>Settings>Wireless Network Connection>View Wireless Connections” From here make sure the laptop is connected to your network.

    If it is great, if not make a connection under “Make A New Connection.” to get there go to “Start>Settings>My Network Connections.”

    Then go to your drive under “Start>Programs>Asseccories>Windows Explorer” Open the drive you have for your FTP Server and and under properties choose to allow other drives on your network access this drive.

    This is off of memory but if you follow it you should be able to get it figured out.
