I need help from a computer whiz on setting up a WIRELSS HOME NETWORK? Please help me! :-)?

Ok, I have the following items-

Acer- Laptop Computer
Gateway- Desktop Computer
Linksys- WRT150N Router
AT&T/SBC- DSL Modem
Lexmark- X7170 All-In-One Printer

I currently have my laptop, router, and DSL modem connected and working properly. I don’t necessarily need my desktop computer hooked up to the network because everytime I connect it to the network it throws my DSL modem off and I lose my internet connection thru the whole system.

If my understanding is correct, you can link computers together so that they can share files and things. Is this true? If so, does the desktop computer have to be connected to the internet?

Also, can I connect my printer wirelessly to my laptop computer thru my modem somehow?

What else can I do with a home network? I am really new to all of this…And I have really gotten in over my head trying to figure it all out.
