How do I send an instant message between networked computers in my home without being “online”?

at my old job, we used to be able to send messages to other people on the network using the “run” command…. i cant remember exactly how to do it, but i think you had to know the name of each computer that you wanted to “chat” with.

Easiest way to use it…Start/Run, cmd, press enter, and run the above.
