How do I establish a network between the computers in my home?

capital vice asked:

I want to establish a network that allows everyone in my home to communicate via separate computers, but access some of the same programs and transfer them to one another. We already IM, but say, for instance, I want to access Outlook Notes saved onto another computer in the house from my office? I’ve been unsuccessful in trying to email them. What are some other options to try? Thanks.
I know it’s a bit late to add now, but I use Windows Vista.

this depends on what operating system you are using?

What do you mean “from your office”, because if you mean from a work location outside your house the answer would be different.

You can go to “My Network Places” and then “setup a small home or office network’ and follow the directions.

there are several ways to do this from using remote desktop ( probably not what you need ) to setting up a small office network that will allow the transfering of files over the network , to a vpn that would even allow you to do it remotely , depends on your OS .
