How do you connect a wireless laptop to a home computer network?
machoman asked:
I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows Vista, and have three desktop XP computers at home. The 3 desktop computers are networked together for the purpose of sharing a printer and Internet. I have tried to network my laptop, which is wireless, so that it too can use the printer. I have two routers, one hard wired where the three desktops along with the wireless router are connected. I need help with figuring out how to connect my laptop with my base computer to use the printer. Like I said, they are all connected, so they all share the same Internet connection. When I go to search for the base computer through the laptop, I can not find it. I need help. I know that it can be done because I see people at work using a wireless laptop and printing of the networked printer. Will someone please help me through this. Thanks to all that answer.

My computer silently downloads about 175 MB/day. It is ezi_hnm2.exe (Dell Home Network Manager). Is it needed?
Michal asked:
Hello, I have a question regarding silent downloads of my computer. I recently installed a network monitor to control internet traffic and discovered that every hour, ezi_hnm2.exe (Dell Home Network Manager) downloads about 7.25 MB. That results in roughly 175 MB per day and roughly 5 GB per month if the computer is running most of the time. It seems like a huge potential waste of traffic limits. I was wondering if anyone knows what the program is downloading and why it is doing it. What possible information is needed for the upkeep of my network functionality? It does so whether I am on Wi-Fi or cable connection. Should I disable the program? Before I try to do so, I am trying to make sure I understand what it is doing, if only for curiosity. I suppose there is a reason for all this. (I have Windows XP and a Dell laptop, although this information is useless for this purpose.) Thanks a lot in advance for sharing if you know.
Thanks. I have just discovered, after some research, that it was updates. So nasty! It has been checking for updates every hour. (Once I manually started and update check, it downloaded exactly the aforementioned volume…) I can’t believe such an idiotic default setup has been made by Dell. I guess most inexperienced users are in the same situation, with network traffic increased for no reason. Anyway, thank you for the answer. Michal

Or, my laptop prompts me to insert a usb drive with info from my home computer in order to connect with it. Either option, can anyone help?

How do I establish a network between the computers in my home?
capital vice asked:
I want to establish a network that allows everyone in my home to communicate via separate computers, but access some of the same programs and transfer them to one another. We already IM, but say, for instance, I want to access Outlook Notes saved onto another computer in the house from my office? I’ve been unsuccessful in trying to email them. What are some other options to try? Thanks.
I know it’s a bit late to add now, but I use Windows Vista.

Within my home network, I cannot remotely shutdown a computer. How can I set it up so that I can do so?
R. Rivera asked:
Whenever I run the command prompt within one of my Windows XP Machines or Vista, and run the remote shutdown command, it simply lists “access denied”. If possible I would like to change that so that I can remotely shutdown a computer in the network.

Purchasing new computer ~ Want WiFi or Wireless capabilities on desktop ~ What should I look for?
Curiosity1962 asked:
I’m looking at purchasing a new computer for school and home use. At the same time, I am planning to set up a wireless home network. I have found a couple of desktops & laptops that I am interested in, but am confused about the networking capabilities.
Here are my questions:
1. What is an integrated network adapter? Does it provide wireless networking capabilities, or would I have to purchase an additional adapter?
2. What is an 802.11b/g wireless LAN adapter? Is this just available on laptops, or is it also available on desktops?
3. Which is better? Which would you recommend?
Thanks in advance for any help given!
Have a great day!
